Sandcast Gold & Rough Sapphire Earrings - Off the Bench Peg
Made by Jamila, these earrings feature two rough sapphires cast into solid gold nuggets dangling from elongated loops. Made from recycled 9ct yellow gold cast in sand from the tidal island of Neuwerk in the Wadden Sea, Germany.
The sapphires vary in tone, one has hues of deep red, the other of grey/green which adds to the organic nature of the earrings.
In Jamila's words:
"This Bench Peg piece began with experiments with casting rough sapphires in place and resulted with these two drops that just felt like a pair. I chose to turn them into earrings. I worked instinctively, moulding different shapes that would compliment the sapphire drops. I wanted them to feel organic, almost molten. The elongated loops are rugged yet elegant and the sapphire drops have a lovely movement when worn."
